Epidemiological comments 1. The 26th affected farm (Tahara city in Aichi, 11/6/2019) On 11th June, official veterinarians of the Aichi Livestock Hygiene Service Centre (LHSC) visited this farm to conduct sampling in the framework of active surveillance program to lift shipment restriction zone (SRZ) and movement restriction zone (MRZ). The samples were tested for classical swine fever (CSF) virus by RT-PCR at the LHSC. The samples were found to be positive on 12th June. On 16th June, stamping out, disinfection of contaminated materials, tools and facilities were completed at the 26th affected farm. 2. The 25th affected farm (Yamagata city in Gifu, 4/6/2019) On 10th June, stamping out, disinfection of contaminated materials, tools and facilities were completed at the 25th affected farm. 3. Summary of the wild boar surveillance As of the 19th June, 1,429 wild boars (279 dead and 1,150 captured) in Gifu prefecture have been tested and 627 (212 dead and 415 captured) were found to be positive for CSF virus (CSFV) by RT-PCR since 13th of September 2018. 465 wild boars (26 dead and 439 captured) in Aichi prefecture have been tested and 28 were found to be positive (10 dead and 18 captured) for CSFV by RT-PCR since 14th of September 2018. Among the other prefectures, 343 wild boars (298 dead and 45 captured) in 41 prefectures were tested and all were found to be negative for CSFV by RT-PCR since the 14th of September 2018. Note: Vaccination policy in Japan is that vaccination for domestic animals only is prohibited. Since 24th March 2019, oral vaccine (bait vaccine) have been applied to wild boars in selected area in Gifu and Aichi prefectures where CSF positive cases have been found in wild boars.
