Epidemiological comments This event represents a first confirmed detection of VHSV genotype IVa in this geographic area and also a first confirmed detection in Atlantic herring (new host species). 71 animals were screened by QRT-PCR and 58 tested positive. A subset of the tested positive were also tested by conventional RT-PCR, virus isolation and genotyping for confirmation and genotyping purposes.
