Affected population After the ASF occurred in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, control measures such as blockade, killing and disposal and disinfection were applied, in accordance with the requirements of “the Contingency Plan for ASF” and “Technical Regulation on ASF Control (Trial)”, the total of 1825 pigs in coherent herd were killed in the affected areas, and disposed of the culled pigs in a biosafe method. No new outbreaks and positive samples have been found for the 6 consecutive weeks in surveillance and monitoring. Local animal husbandry and veterinary authorities organized the acceptance for laboratory tests and on-site assessments in the affected areas. The results of the acceptance were in compliance with the regulations on the blockade lift in the affected areas, and the ASF outbreak was solved. The local government decided to lift the blockade at 00:00 o’clock on 1st of October 2018. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs requires the local animal husbandry and veterinary sectors to continue to strengthen the surveillance and monitoring and take active prevention and control measures, as to prevent the recurrence of ASF.

Epidemiological comments Strict blockade, disinfection, and movement control measures were conducted in the slaughterhouse. The local government launched the African swine fever contingency plan and emergency response according to the Standard & Protocol for African swine fever. All live pigs and animal products were prohibited to enter and exit the area. Epidemiological survey and screening have been initiated in the Heilongjiang province.
