Affected population Suspicion on brucellosis was notified due to information on human case received from the Croatian Regional Public Health Service in Dubrovnik-neretva county. A herd with caprine and bovine animals was declared as suspect and samples were taken from all bovine animals older than 12 months and caprine animals older than 6 months. 45 caprine animals and 6 bovine animals were serologically positive on brucellosis. All positive caprine animals were euthanised. Bacteriological examination confirmed presence of Brucella melitensis in 36 goats. Seropositive bovines and all remaining caprine animals in the flock were euthanised. Samples were taken from seropositive bovine for bacteriological testing. Brucella melitensis is isolated from 3 cattle. Sampling and testing of bovine, ovine and caprine animals kept on holdings situated in 10 km radius around affected holding is ongoing. Further epidemiological investigation is on-going. Update on June 4 2020: Second sampling and testing of all bovine animals in the herd was performed in December 2019. In total 36 bovine were tested with RBT test, all results were negative. In February 2020, 31 animals were tested (4 animals were RBT positive, 2 animals were RVK positive, 7 animals were iELISA positive, 2 animals were cELISA positive). 7 serologically positive animals will be euthanized.
