Epidemiological comments 1. The 35th affected farm (Toyota city in Aichi) On August 8th, some pigs were found to have high fever and low appetite. That was reported to the Aichi Livestock Hygiene Service Centre (LHSC). The official veterinarians of the LHSC immediately visited the farm to conduct a clinical inspection and sampling. The samples were tested for classical swine fever (CSF) virus by RT-PCR at the LHSC. The samples were found to be positive on August 9th. On August 11th, stamping out and disinfection were completed at the 35th affected farm. 2. The 36th affected farm (Nagakute city in Aichi) On August 8th, official veterinarians of the Aichi LHSC visited this farm to conduct sampling in the process of the active surveillance program to lift MRZ. The samples were tested for CSF virus by RT-PCR at the LHSC. The samples were found to be positive on August 9th. On August 13th stamping out and disinfection were completed at the 36th affected farm. 3. The 37th affected farm (Echizen city in Fukui) On August 11th, some pigs were found to be dead or have high fever and low appetite. That was reported to the Fukui LHSC. The official veterinarians of the LHSC immediately visited the farm to conduct a clinical inspection and sampling. The samples were tested for CSF virus by RT-PCR at the LHSC. The samples were found to be positive on August 12th. On August 14th stamping out was completed. Disinfection of contaminated materials, tools and facilities is being carried out. 4. Summary of the wild boar surveillance (as of 14th August) [Gifu prefecture (since 13th of September 2018)] Tested (RT-PCR): 1,914 wild boars (368 dead and 1,546 captured), Positive: 841 (275 dead and 566 captured) [Aichi prefecture (since 14th of September 2018)] Tested (RT-PCR): 797 wild boars (36 dead and 761 captured), Positive: 65 wild boars (16 dead and 49 captured) [Nagano prefecture (since 14th of September 2018)] Tested (RT-PCR): 212 wild boars (89 dead and 123 captured) Positive: 59 (29 dead and 30 captured) [Mie prefecture (since 14th of September 2018)] Tested (RT-PCR): 131 wild boars (15 dead and 116 captured), Positive: 4 (0 dead and 4 captured) [Fukui prefecture (since 14th September 2018)] Tested (RT-PCR): 39 wild boars (5 dead and 34 captured), Positive: 7 (0 dead and 7 captured) [Toyama prefecture (since 14th September 2018)] Tested (RT-PCR): 29 wild boars (9 dead and 20 captured) Positive: 4 (3 dead and 1 captured) [Other 37 prefectures (since 14th of September 2018) Tested (RT-PCR): 352 wild boars (265 dead and 87 captured) Positive: 0 Note 1: Vaccination policy in Japan is that vaccination for domestic animals only is prohibited. Since 24th March 2019, oral vaccine (bait vaccine) has been applied to wild boars in selected area in Gifu and Aichi prefecture where CSF positive cases have been found in wild boars. Note 2 about shipment restriction and movement restriction: When CSF outbreaks happen, Japan has implemented Shipment Restriction Zone (SRZ), which is established within 3-10 km radius of the affected farm, and Movement Restriction Zone (MRZ), which is established within 3km radius of the affected farm. SRZ will be lifted when both all the results of active surveillance program are negative, and 17 days have passed after the completion of full implementation of control measures (stamping out, disinfection etc.). MRZ will be lifted when both all the results of active surveillance program are negative, and 28 days have passed after the completion of full implementation of control measures (stamping out, disinfection etc.).
