Affected population On 29 January 2020, low pathogenic avian influenza H5 has been confirmed in a commercial poultry holding with organic laying hens. The layers were tested in accordance with the Danish surveillance programme for avian influenza in poultry. The holding consists of 48.000 organic egg layers. All susceptible animals at the infected holding were killed and disposed of by rendering. The poultry was killed using carbon dioxide (CO2) and took place on 31 January and 1 February 2020. The killing was performed over two days due to the size of the herd. The cleaning and disinfection was approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food administration on 4 February 2020.
