Epidemiological comments The virulent Newcastle Disease (vND) event in California poultry as defined by OIE is now closed and resolved. The last confirmed positive detection of vNDV in poultry was made on November 29, 2019. In addition to having no further vNDV detections in poultry, the following outbreak response activities were performed: Depopulated infected poultry premises, dangerous contacts, and the high-risk premises. Placed a regional quarantine, mandated reporting of sick birds, prohibited movement of poultry except by permit, and conducted surveillance. Completed virus elimination on poultry premises. Audited the biosecurity of commercial poultry premises and other at-risk premises in the regional quarantine area. Provided ongoing education and outreach. The vNDV infection in poultry event in the United States of America is considered CLOSED, in accordance with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code Chapter 10.9 (Articles 10.9.3 and 10.9.4).
