Epidemiological comments Update Apr 20, 2020: Colorado--RHDV2 confirmed in three wild cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus spp.) in Costilla County, Colorado on 17 Apr 2020. This is the first detection of RHDV2 in Colorado. Colorado State Animal Health Officials and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) have begun an epidemiological investigation into the outbreak. Arizona--RHDV2 confirmed in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) on one additional non-commercial premises in Cochise County, Arizona. Total positive premises in Arizona is two. All affected premises have been quarantined. Depopulation and disposal activites are pending. There have also been three new wild rabbit detections of RHDV2 in Desert cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus audubonii) from Cochise County and a Black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus californicus) from Greenlee County. Arizona State Animal Health Officials and the USDA, APHIS continue an epidemiological investigation into these outbreaks. Texas--RHDV2 confirmed in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) on two additional non-commercial premises in El Paso County, Texas. Total positive premises in Texas is three. RHDV2 has also been detected in wild Black-tailed jackrabbits (Lepus californicus) in Lubbock County and Desert cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus audubonii) in Hudspeth County. Disease response activities are pending. Texas State Animal Health Officials and the USDA, APHIS continue an epidemiological investigation into the outbreaks. New Mexico--RHDV2 confirmed in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) from four additional non-commercial premises. Total positive premises in New Mexico is 17, in addition to wild rabbit detections. State officials have quarantined all affected premises. Depopulation activities have been completed on ten of the premises. Disposal (incineration recommended) is ongoing. New Mexico State Animal Health Officials and the USDA, APHIS continue their epidemiological investigation into these outbreaks. General clinical signs seen in confirmed cases from all the affedcted states include lethargy, seizures, and sudden death. Currently, there are no known links to outbreak events in Washington or New York.
