Epidemiological comments Update Apr 27, 2020: Colorado--Colorado State Animal Health Officials and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) continue an epidemiological investigation into the current outbreak. Arizona--RHDV2 confirmed in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) on five additional non-commercial premises in Cochise and Navajo Counties. Total positive premises in Arizona is seven. All affected premises have been quarantined. Four of the affected premises have been depopulated. Disposal activities are pending. There has also been one new wild rabbit detection of RHDV2 in Black-tailed jackrabbits (Sylvilagus audubonii) from Graham County. Arizona State Animal Health Officials and the USDA, APHIS continue an epidemiological investigation into these outbreaks. Texas--Texas State Animal Health Officials and the USDA, APHIS continue an epidemiological investigation into the current outbreaks. New Mexico--RHDV2 confirmed in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) from four additional non-commercial premises. Total positive premises in New Mexico is 21, in addition to wild rabbit detections. State officials have quarantined all affected premises. Depopulation activities have been completed on 11 of the premises. Disposal (incineration recommended) is ongoing. New Mexico State Animal Health Officials and the USDA, APHIS continue their epidemiological investigation into these outbreaks. General clinical signs seen in confirmed cases from all the affected states include lethargy, seizures, and sudden death. Currently, there are no known links to outbreak events in Washington or New York. New York--No further RHDV rabbit deaths associated with the clinic have been reported since 6 Mar 2020. Cleaning, disinfection, and a fallow period have been completed at the clinic. Sentinel rabbits present in the facility for two weeks have shown no signs of disease. Quarantine was lifted on 18 Apr 2020. The New York outbreak is considered closed.
