Epidemiological comments 3 Sep 2020 Update-- Louisiana (LA): A domestic cat from a known positive COVID-19 household was confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 at the National Veterinary Services Laboratories based upon molecular testing (PCR and sequencing). The affected cat, which initially showed mild respiratory signs, had reportedly improved by the following day. Texas (TX): Four dogs and two cats from Brazos County who are housemates to the three confirmed positive cat cases have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus neutralizing antibodies. Virus neutralizing antibodies in the absence of other positive test results have been detected in the following animals (listed by state): 1. 1 cat (AZ)** 2. 3 cats and 5 dogs from seven households (TX)** As of 3 Sep 2020, total number of animals with detections of virus neutralizing antibody only:31 **Samples collected as part of planned and targeted active surveillance of specific animals, with known or suspected exposures to a person with COVID-19 or other exposure to SARS-CoV-2, to better understand risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 transmission.
