Affected population It is a farm with a backyard, comprising 18 birds, detected through perifocal active surveillance. Samples were collected, of which one tested positive for Salmonella gallinarum. The birds show no signs of the disease.

Epidemiological comments In the affected farm in Zempoala, stamping out of animals, cleaning and disinfection as well as fallowing have been completed, so the outbreak is closed. In the municipality of Zempoala, samples of cloacal swabs and organs have been taken from 193 farms with backyards and from 12 high technology production units. All results tested negative to the pathogenic agent. Based on the epidemiological tracing in the area around the outbreak, one animal positive by bacterial isolation of the agent and with no clinical signs was detected in a farm with a backyard. This farm is located in a municipality adjacent to Zempoala, Hidalgo and 10 km away from the index outbreak. The second affected holding has been depopulated and is in the process of cleaning and disinfection. Active surveillance continues and has been extended to 11 municipalities in this State in search of possible new cases. No notifications have been received nor sick animals identified in the relevant area.
