Affected population A female domestic cat (Felis catus), without clinical signs. Oral and nasal swabs were taken from a cat and a dog asymptomatic living in a household with COVID-19 confirmed human cases. The first sample from the cat, collected on 5 October 2020, was RT-PCR positive at the laboratories of the two universities (results received on 16 and on 22 October); the second sample, collected on 16 October 2020, was negative to the test carried out at the laboratory of the University of Mato Grosso (result received on 23 October 2020). The dog's samples were negative.

Epidemiological comments These tests are part of a research project on pets living in households with confirmed human cases of recent SARS CoV-2 infection. The SARS CoV-2 surveillance study (PetCOVID-19 Study) is carried out within the One Health framework and is coordinated by the Federal University of Paraná, with the participation of other federal universities and the cooperation with public health services in several States of the country.
