27 Nov 2020 Update--
Oregon (OR): Domestic American Mink (Neovison vison) from a commercial premises were confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 at the National Veterinary Services Laboratories based upon molecular testing results (PCR and sequencing), meeting case definition. This is the first confirmed detection of SARS-CoV-2 in mink from Oregon.
Reported clinical signs were inappetance, coughing and mild respiratory signs, including sneezing. Mortality rates on the affected premises have remained normal for this time of year and no respiratory or gastrointestinal signs have currently been observed. The colony is reported to be free of Aleutian Disease, making it unique amongst mink colonies in the United States affected to date. The affected premises reported positive COVID-19 humans that were in contact with the mink.
State Officials in Oregon are working closely with Federal One Health partners to follow up and monitor the situation.
Please note: To protect confidentiality of any data related to human cases, the location used for this outbreak is that of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (OVDL), where animal samples were first tested.
Due to limitations with the WAHIS system, the map notation indicates disease outbreaks in wild mink, however the affected populations are domesticated American Mink (Neovison vison) from commercial premises as stated above. |
