Affected population Ducks, in pre-feeding phase in the open air, showed a sharp increase in mortality. The first-line diagnosis carried out by the departmental laboratory revealed an H5 virus by PCR. Stamping-out took place without waiting for confirmation by the national reference laboratory. The upstream/downstream epidemiological investigation is continuing. The commune is located in a wetland area, overflown by migratory birds.

Epidemiological comments The upstream epidemiological investigation is continuing at the supplier of the birds, which is common to all three pet shops. All backyard premises are secondary outbreaks of the pet shops. H5N8 virus clade is 2.3.4.4.
