THE VETERINARY SERVICES > GOVERNANCE

Good veterinary governance relies on efficient national Veterinary Services complying with OIE standards of quality. They must have appropriate means available to achieve their missions and in particular, adapted veterinary legislation which is a pillar of any efficient animal health policy. In many developing countries, veterinary legislation is very old and poorly adapted to current and future challenges. For that reason, veterinary legislation must be updated to address emerging threats and modern societal expectations. A new normative chapter on veterinary legislation has been adopted by the World Assembly of Delegates in May 2012. This chapter applies to all OIE Member Countries.
